Oyster Mushrooms

There are various species that include blue, pink and king oysters.


These mushrooms are used for culinary and medicinal uses in China, India, Korea and Japan.


They were originally cultivated in Germany during WWI as a means of sustenance when food was scarce.


Flavor profile: umami, “meaty”


Used: raw, cooked, dried, sauces, soup


Benefits:

  • Packed with antioxidants
  • May block cancer growth
  • Boost brain health
  • May lower cholesterol levels
  • Alleviate inflammation
  • Provide antioxidants, protein, fiber, niacin, riboflavin and other micronutrients


Proponents claim that Oyster mushrooms can help with a variety of health problems, including:

  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • High cholesterol
  • Inflammation
  • Nutrient deficiency


Cooking Instructions:

  1. Shred the mushrooms into strips with your fingers.
  2. Use a high heat oil (ie. avocado, safflower etc.) and add mushrooms in a saute pan.
  3. Saute until desired texture and color. The longer you cook it, the crispier it becomes. It may take between 5 to 7 minutes or longer.
  4. Add salt, onion and garlic powder in the last couple of minutes before serving.
  5. Add it as a topping on or incorporate it in any dish you desire.
